The anti-corruption agency USKOK has issued five indictments against 45 people, including 14 customs and four police officers, on the charges that they took bribes to allow the illegal import of goods into Croatia on border crossings in Krapina-Zagorje and Primorje-Gorski Kotar counties.
The indictees include a building inspector who is charged with having taken a bribe to approve further work on a building in Opatija despite detected irregularities.
The first arrests in the case started in May 2010, after a year-long secret anti-corruption operation.
The illegal activities were allegedly masterminded by Milan Galac of Zabok.
The indictees will be tried before the Zagreb County Court for abuse of powers, bribery, illegal brokerage and incitement to abuse of powers and illegal brokerage.
