20,000 dead people removed from BH voter registers ahead of Croatian vote

Voter registers in Bosnia and Herzegovina have been updated and over 20,000 people have been removed from the registers after it has been found that they are dead, which will help prevent abuse of votes, the head of the Consular Department of the Croatian Embassy in Sarajevo and election coordinator, Marijana Mikulic, said in Mostar on Wednesday.

Mikulic said that about 268,000 Bosnian citizens with dual Croatiancitizenship were entitled to vote in the presidential election in Croatia onDecember 27.

At previous presidential and parliamentary elections in Croatia, there werecomplaints about the abuse of dead people's identities in voting in Bosnia andHerzegovina.

On election day, 124 polling stations will be opened across Bosnia andHerzegovina for the presidential election in Croatia -- 37 in the Sarajevoarea, 54 in the Mostar area, 16 in the Banja Luka area and 17 in the Tuzla area.
