A special ceremony was held in the Marin Drzic Theatre in Dubrovnik on Wednesday to conclude a three-day programme in honour of Victory Day - the 20th anniversary of liberation of Croatia's south.

Attending the event, President Ivo Josipovic said that Croatia had won in war and that it would win in peace when it became a member of the European Union.

"We should honour those who heroically fought for Croatia", said Josipovic.

Major General Nojko Marinovic, the war commander of forces that defended Dubrovnik, recalled some of the most difficult moments during the Serbian-Montenegrin aggression on that city.

A procession with all the flags of military units involved in the defence of that city during the war marched through the streets prior to the ceremony and President Josipovic laid a wreath at the "Mother of Konavle" monument in Cilipe, just south of Dubrovnik.
