The 26th Music Biennale Zagreb started at Zagreb's Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall on Friday evening, with a concert by the Zagreb Music Academy Choir and Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Mladen Tarbuk, who performed works by Ivo Malec, Milko Kelemen and Igor Stravinsky.
Since its establishment in 1961, this renowned international festival of contemporary classical music has hosted, along with leading domestic performers, the greatest international ensembles and artists, as well as composers.
This year's event will be held not only in Zagreb but also in Rijeka, Split, Osijek and Varazdin, and in the 11 festival days, until April 17, the audience will be able to attend 35 concerts.
In Zagreb, the festival will be taking place at several locations - the Mimara Museum, the Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall, and a Croatian Radio Television studio.
This year's Biennale and the World New Music Days it will host are held under the auspices of President Ivo Josipovic.
