Three people were killed and several sustained injuries in a fire which erupted in an old people's home in Bjelovar, 60 kilometres east of Zagreb, on Friday, after thunder struck the building, the Bjelovar police reported.
The thunderbolt hit a family house in which the privately-owned home is located.
Local rescue teams reported that 11 people had been hurt and that all residents of the old people's home had been transferred to the Bjelovar hospital.
An on-site investigation is under way.
