Bosnia and Herzegovina is still searching for 34,969 people who have been unaccounted for since the end of the 1992-1995 war, the state institute for missing people reported on Thursday, adding that it set up a central register of missing people.
The new central register compiles data from 13 different data bases collected by local and international institutions dealing with the problem of people who disappeared in the war.
The institute says that additional checks of the register would probably show that some people were reported in several data bases as missing which is why it can be expected that the figure of 34,969 people would be revised down.
So far, forensic experts have unearthed about 23,000 bodies of war victims in single and mass graves, and 21,500 victims have been identified.
