Commemorative events including wreath-laying ceremonies and prayers were held on the island of Kornat on Friday for 12 firemen killed in a wildfire on the island six years ago.
In attendance were the families of the victims, representatives of the state leadership, firefighters and residents of local coastal towns and villages.
Twelve firemen from Sibenik, Vodice and Tisno died while trying to put out the wildfire on Kornat island on 30 August 2007. Only one survived.
The families do not believe in the theory that the tragedy occurred due to eruptive fire behaviour, and suspect that key evidence was eliminated.
The trial of former Sibenik-Knin County fire marshal Drazen Slavica, charged with the deaths of those 12 firemen, is still under way.
