Croatia's Agrokor concern, the majority owner of the Konzum store chain, has sent a memo to Slovenia's Mercator store chain expressing its interest in linking the two store chains and suggesting talks on the matter.
In a letter released on the Zagreb Stock Exchange on Friday, Agrokor CEO Ivica Todoric informed Mercator CEO Ziga Debeljak that the strategic linking was the intention behind Agrokor's recent bid for a minority stake in Mercator owned by the Pivovarna Lasko brewery.
Todoric recalled that in a 2 March 2011 letter, Debeljak said the Mercator group was interested in linking with a part of the Agrokor group's retail sector, and suggested talks on the matter.
