The Zagreb County Court on Wednesday heard the last three witnesses in an investigation into businessman Tomislav Horvatincic, who is suspected of causing a marine accident in which two Italian boaters were killed.
Judge Vera Polak Presecki questioned Davor Jelavic, head of the Zagreb city department for physical planning whom Horvatincic reportedly called right after the accident. Jelavic confirmed to reporters after the hearing that Horvatincic had phoned him after the accident and that they had talked for "a minute or two".
Asked why Horvatincic had phoned him, Jelavic said: "Who would you call in such a situation if not your family and friends."
He added that he and Horvatincic had been friends since 1964.
Horvatincic's lawyers Velimir Dosan and Branko Baica said that two employees of Horvatincic's Hoto Group company were questioned today as well, regarding a statement the company issued shortly after the accident.
Asked if it was true that the statement which Anica Djerdje Dilber, who was with Horvatincic on his yacht when it crashed into the boat of Francesco and Marinelda Salpietro, gave to the investigating judge yesterday differed from the statement she had given to the police after the accident, the lawyers said the statement to the police was only an official note and that only statements given to the investigating judge were considered as court evidence.
The lawyers said that all witnesses had been questioned now and that the case file would be returned to the Sibenik County Court for further proceedings.
The County Court in that coastal city is in charge of the investigation into Horvatincic.
