People's Party (HNS) president Radimir Cacic said on Monday that not even one anti-recession measure of Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and her Croatian Democratic Union party had been realised even in part.

"We are talking about a complete collapse of the economic policy and there is no reason to expect that something will change with a package of measures," he said.

For the anti-recession measures to work, it is necessary to launch development processes, be willing to make strong and radical cuts, and restructure public spending, said Cacic.

The only budgetary cut made in this government, of HRK 6 billion, was made by former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, he added.

Cacic does not think the situation in Croatia is similar to the one in Greece, but said that if pressure on the real sector persisted, the sector would break down and the Greek scenario would be possible.

He described the agricultural policy as "a complete failure, aimed at buying votes". Regarding recent farmers' protests over incentives, he said farmers were entitled to protest because a responsible government should keep its promises.
