Former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader, who was arrested on a motorway near Salzburg, Austria on Friday afternoon, will be taken to the Salzburg provincial court and then the authorities will decide what will happen with him in the next days or the next weeks, Austrian Interior Ministry spokesman Alexander Marakovits was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

Marakovits said Austria acted after receiving an international arrest warrant for Sanader. "Our police tried to find him and we located him on the highway this afternoon," he said.

According to Austrian media reports, Sanader was arrested at the St. Michael tollbooths on the A10 motorway, about 100 kilometres from Salzburg. The Kurier newspaper said he was arrested by plainclothes police.
