Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic arrived in the northern Adriatic archipelago of Brijuni on Wednesday evening where he is expected to take part in the 5th regional conference of prosecutors on Thursday and Friday.
The conference brought together the leading war crimes prosecutors in the region and the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugolavia (ICTY), Serge Brammertz.
Asked about the additional report on processing war crimes cases which he sent to Brussels on Saturday, Bajic said the report included the results Croatia had made in the past several years.
“There are some changes, starting from a detailed overview of war crimes in general to what Croatia has been doing about it and what are our plans and the pace of action,” Bajic said.
He said the conference in Brijuni was a regular conference of state prosecutors namely prosecutors in the regions who will discuss cooperation so far and how to promote it. Also discussed will be the setting up of similar legal standards, the prosecution of war crimes and the establishment of a data base in a legal practice.
Bajic said the conference will also focus on the takeover of documentation from the ICTY Office of the Prosecutor, as well as on the continuation of the processing of war crimes, even after the closure of the ICTY.
The conference in Brijuni is closed to the public. It is attended by delegations of the Croatian Chief State Prosecutor’s Office, the ICTY Office of the Prosecutor, the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office of Montenegro, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republika Srpska Prosecutor’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Brcko District.
