Banks in Croatia made HRK 4.6 billion in pre-tax profits in 2010, up 8.8 per cent on the year, the Croatian National Bank (HNB) said on Tuesday.
In 2009, pre-tax profit was down HRK 1.5 billion on the year, more than 26 per cent.
The data refers to 33 banks in 2010 and 32 in 2009.
Assets on the last day of 2010 totalled HRK 384.99 billion, up 1.75 per cent on the year.
The average liable capital adequacy rate was 18.45 per cent.
Twenty-eight of the 33 banks made profits in 2010, while five reported losses totalling HRK 118.6 million.
Zagrebacka Banka (ZABA) had the highest gross profit, HRK 1.56 billion, followed by Privredna Banka Zagreb (PBZ) with HRK 1.04 billion.
The two banks account for 56.6 per cent of the gross profits generated by all banks in 2020, ZABA with a 33.9 and PBZ with a 22.7 per cent share.
Erste & Steiermaerkische was third with HRK 757.9 million, followed by Raiffeisen Austria with HRK 449.9 million, Hypo-Alpe-Adria-Bank with HRK 279.1 million, and Societe Generale - Splitska Banka with HRK 256.1 million.
The state-owned Hrvatska Postanska Banka reported a 55.7 million pre-tax profit in 2010, against a loss of HRK 448.8 million reported the year before.
