High jump champion Blanka Vlasic and Alpine skier Ivica Kostelic have been voted best Croatian athletes for the second consecutive year in a poll conducted by Sportske Novosti sports magazine. The results were released on Saturday.
It was the sixth trophy for Vlasic as the best female athlete of Croatia. She is gaining on retired Alpine skier Janica Kostelic who was voted athlete of the year eight times. Her brother, Ivica Kostelic, has triumphed four times as best athlete.
The national women's basketball team, who finished fifth at the European championships in Poland, and the national men's water polo team, who captured a bronze at the world championships in Shanghai, were voted best national teams.
Nearly 400 sports journalists took part in the vote.
