Bosnia and Herzegovina's Council of Ministers on Tuesday finalised a draft agreement with Croatia that should prevent persons convicted by courts in either country from avoiding the serving of prison sentences by abusing the institution of dual citizenship.
The Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Nikola Spiric, said at a pressconference in Sarajevo that the Council adopted proposed amendments to anearlier signed agreement on mutual legal aid and the enforcement of judicialdecisions in criminal matters. "We've already done it with Serbia, but we haven't done it withCroatia, which has caused various comments. The amendments will make itpossible for prison sentences to be served in either state without the consentof convicted persons," Spiric said. In that way Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia would treat fugitivesfrom justice from the three countries in the same way, regardless of theircitizenship. The amendments had been expected to be signed this month, but the BosnianJustice Ministry indicated that the signing would have to be postponed, mostlikely until next month, for technical reasons. The amendments were yet to be approved by the Bosnian collective presidency.
