CHF exchange rate hits new record-high level

The Croatian national currency continued to depreciate against the Swiss franc which on Monday reached a record high mean exchange rate of one franc to HRK 6.856, according to the Croatian National Bank's latest exchange rate list.

The appreciation of the Swiss franc is causing fear among jittery users of housing and car loans pegged to the franc. In Croatia, more than 42% of housing loans and 47% of car loans are tied to the Swiss currency. The franc gained 4.8% in value in the last week.

The Swiss government announced an urgent meeting for Monday on attempts to restrain the growth of the franc.

The kuna appreciated against other leading currencies, resulting in a 0.18% fall of the euro and the euro exchange rate of HRK 7.434956. The US dollar depreciated by 0.53%, with the dollar exchange rate being one dollar to HRK 5.208740. The pound-kuna exchange rate was one pound to 8.549857 kuna, a 0.17% drop in the value of the UK currency.
