Croatia's registered unemployment rate reached 20.1% in February, 0.3 percentage points higher than in January and 0.5 percentage points higher than in February 2011, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported on Thursday.

This is the first time since April 2003 that the registered unemployment rate has crossed the 20 percent threshold. In April 2003, the registered unemployment rate was 20.4%, with 345,300 people registered as unemployed.

The lowest registered unemployment rate in the last ten years was 12.3% in August 2008, when 219,300 Croatians were registered with the Employment Service as jobless.

The Employment Service reported that there were 342,951 jobless people at the end of this February.
