Croatia will complete negotiations on two more policy chapters in its EU entry talks on Tuesday, so before the summer recess in EU institutions it will have two-thirds of its policy chapters closed.
The EU Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER), which is made up of ambassadors from EU member-countries, this last Thursday adopted joint negotiating positions on the completion of negotiations with Croatia on two policy areas - Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy and Financial Control, Hina was told by a source at the Belgian EU Presidency.
The two policy areas will be closed at an intergovernmental accession conference to be held on Tuesday, July 27. It will be the first accession conference under the Belgian EU Presidency, which is prepared to organise at least two more accession conferences by the end of the year.
With the two policy areas closed, Croatia will have 22 closed policy areas out of 33 that are negotiated. Also, by the end of this month Croatia will submit benchmarks for the closing of a few more policy chapters, meaning that it will have completed work on more than two-thirds of the policy areas.
