Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor has sent her best wishes to the head of the Serb Orthodox Church in Zagreb, Ljubljana and Italy, Metropolitan Bishop Jovan Pavlovic, and to Serb Orthodox believers and other faithful who celebrate Christmas according to the Julian calendar, the government's public relations office said in a statement on Wednesday.

The holiday of Christ's birth is a time of peace and welfare for all people on the earth, and it is also an occasion for us to remember the genuine Christian values that should follow us throughout the year, Kosor said in her message.

All of that should encourage us "to remain committed to the common weal, progress and a better life of all citizens, building a democratic and European Croatia," she said.

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic also sent messages with their best wishes to the head of the Serb Orthodox Church in Zagreb, Ljubljana and Italy, Metropolitan Bishop Jovan Pavlovic, and to Christian faithful who celebrate Christmas according to the Julian calendar,
