Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has said Serbia wants to maintain close relations with Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina "in the same way that the US supports Albanians in Kosovo".
"If somebody has understanding for the fact that the US supports so much Albanians in Kosovo, who are tens of thousands of miles away, it's certainly more reasonable and can be understood that Serbia is inclined towards helping Serbs who live in Republika Srpska (RS) as a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Sarajevo's Oslobodjenje daily quotes Dacic as saying on Tuesday.
Commenting on the claim that Serbia is two-faced in its relationship towards Bosnia and Herzegovina because it nominally supports a united Bosnia, while actually fueling the policy of RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik, Dacic said Belgrade supported the Bosnia as organised under the Dayton peace agreement, while at the same time wanting to intensify special relations with the RS, the Bosnian Serb entity.
He stressed, however, that in case the process of recognition of Kosovo's independence was completed, "somebody could think of the RS, too, adopting a declaration (of independence)".
Responding to a question about the search for Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic, who are wanted by the Hague war crimes tribunal, Dacic said the Serbian police had checked all the locations and information obtained from the world's most important intelligence agencies on their possible whereabouts, but that none had proven to be correct.
"I think (Hague tribunal chief prosecutor) Serge Brammertz will once again see for himself that Serbia is doing all in its power to complete its cooperation with the Hague tribunal", Dacic was quoted as saying.
