Dairy farmers will suspend milk deliveries to buyers as of Monday, the federation of milk producers' association decided at their meeting in Terezino Polje on Sunday.
Federation spokesman Nedjeljko Babic said that dairy farmers were united in their decision to suspend milk delivers to buyers until the purchase price of one litre of milk was 4.05 kuna.
"We hope that both milk processors and the Ministry of Agriculture will accept our terms, that we will reach a negotiated settlement and that deliveries will not be suspended for long," Babic said.
Dairy farmers' representative Antun Laslo said he expected that about a million litres of milk would remain unsold on the farms on Monday.
The problem arose in February when milk producers cut the price of milk from 2.65 kuna to "a disgracefully low price that in most cases doesn't exceed 2.09 kuna", forcing the farmers to operate at a loss, Laslo said.
