About a hundred workers and trade union leaders from the drinks producer Dalmacijavino gathered outside the Economy Ministry building in Zagreb on Tuesday demanding their unpaid wages and protesting over the uncertainty of the privatisation of the Split-based company.

The protesters had arrived in buses from Split and were demanding a meeting with Economy Minister Radimir Cacic, claiming five months' unpaid wages.

The 440 workers of Dalmacijavino last received their wages for July 2011. According to the trade unions, the company owes each worker about 30,000 kuna (approx. 4,000 euros).

Workers said they still did not know who was buying their company because the government has not yet signed a contract with US businessman Salomon Berkowitz.

Berkowitz said recently that his company, Traubi International, had met all the bidding conditions for the privatisation of Dalmacijavino and was ready to sign a contract to take over the company. He said that a request by the State Property Management Agency (AUDIO) for additional documents showed that someone was trying to undermine the deal.
