The water level of the Danube river in the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar at 10am Saturday was at 7.24 metres which is the second highest water level in the history of Vukovar, said Sinisa Kukic of the the Croatian water management company Hrvatske Vode.
"This is the second highest water level in the history of Vukovar, but the flood defence system is functioning entirely," Kukic said assuring there was no room for panic.
The river Danube was set to reach record levels in Vukovar on Sunday and dikes have been strengthened at critical points to protect the eastern town from flooding.
