The defence teams representing Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague will file their appeals to the trial chamber ruling against their clients by electronic mail before the end of the day, Markac's lawyer Goran Mikulicic said on Monday.
The deadline for appeal against the trial chamber ruling of April 15, which sentenced Gotovina to 24 years and Markac to 18 years for war crimes committed against Serb civilians during and after a Croatian military offensive known as Operation Storm in the summer of 1995, expires at midnight on Monday, after which the prosecution has 40 days to respond.
The two defence teams said last week that the appeals had been finalised, but declined to reveal their contents before their filing.
In their respective notices of appeal, filed after the trial chamber ruling, the defence teams called for a reversal of all erroneous findings based on which the two generals were found guilty and for a finding of not guilty on all counts.
