The State Election Commission (DIP) said on Sunday it received a letter from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) asking that posters written in the Cyrillic script with the logo of the League of Communists of Croatia - Party of Democratic Changes, which was used at the first multiparty elections in Croatia in 1990, be banned and removed, saying that the posters violated the SDP rights.

According to the SDP, the contentious posters on which the message "For a Peaceful and Happy Life in Sovereign and Democratic Croatia SKH Party of Democratic Changes" written in the Cyrillic script were put up in the night between 2 and 3 December in a large number of towns and municipalities, DIP said on its website.

DIP say after viewing the photo of the said posters, it decided that they contain the impermissible use of the Social Democratic Party's acronym (SDP). Given that the SDP is taking part in the December 4 parliamentary elections in Croatia, the said posters are deluding the voters immediately ahead of the election and need to be immediately taken down, DIP said.
