The Mayor of Dubrovnik, Andro Vlahusic, and the head of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Mladen Andrlic, met on Thursday to discuss plans for the establishment of a centre of excellence for young diplomats and postgraduate students in Dubrovnik.

The project will be carried out by the City of Dubrovnik, the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI University), the University of Zagreb and the Diplomatic Academy with the support of the European Parliament, whose Deputy Speaker Gianni Pitella initiated the establishment of the Meseuro institution, the European centre for the Mediterranean based in Brussels.

Meseuro will deal with relations between the EU member states and other Mediterranean countries, and Dubrovnik has immediately been accepted by relevant European institutions because of its rich historical heritage, Vlahusic and Andrlic said.

The aim of the Meseuro project is to create a centre of excellence where young diplomats and postgraduate students would discuss current challenges to EU enlargement and relations with other Mediterranean countries, Andrlic said.

A framework agreement for the project will be signed in Brussels later this month.
