Dubrovnik Mayor Andro Vlahusic met with his Venice counterpart Giorgio Orsoni in Venice on Monday and the two officials agreed that the two towns would sign a twinning charter in May.
The initiative has been supported by the two towns' councils and the Italian Foreign Ministry.
Vlahusic and Orsoni also discussed Dubrovnik's participation in the organisation of America's Cup World Series, the sailing competition which Venice will host this year.
The two Adriatic coastal towns have a direct flight connection and cooperate in culture and tourism, their chief economic branch.
