Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak said on Tuesday at a meeting with members of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) that Croatia would not introduce new taxes in the economic sector in 2013.
The announcement was applauded and after the meeting Vrdoljak confirmed for the press there would be no new taxes.
At the meeting with AmCham members, Vrdoljak said that the situation in the economy was not good, adding however that this situation presents both an opportunity and challenge for big steps which the government needed to take.
"We've spent a year and now we really must start with reforms," Vrdoljak said.
He underlined that the law on strategic investments, which is expected to be adopted in early 2013, should facilitate realisation of public and private investments.
Vrdoljak added Croatia also needed an industrial strategy so that business people would know where to invest in over the next ten to fifteen years.
