Since the government's budget revision does not envisage any salary or pension cuts, teachers' unions will not go on strike and the school year will start on September 6 as planned, union leaders said on Tuesday.
"We are glad that the budget revision does not envisage cuts in salaries and benefits of the most vulnerable social categories," Teachers' Union leader Zvonimir Laktasic said, adding, however, that the unions were not entirely satisfied because the government did not plan to tax bank profits and the property of the rich.
Laktasic dismissed claims that the budget revision was only "a cosmetic one", saying that the draft proposed by the government protected the interests of both employees in the education sector and most other citizens.
