The president of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Philippe Maystadt, and Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic in Belgrade on Monday opened the bank's regional office after which they signed three agreements on a EUR 325 million EIB loan for infrastructure projects in Serbia.

Opening the EIB office, Maystadt said the EIB was the most attractive financial institution in Serbia, where since 2011 it had invested three billion euros, of which 690 million in 2010.

He added that investments were being made both in the public and in the private sector.

Cvetkovic said that Serbia was interested in continuing cooperation with the EIB which he said would increase the competitiveness of the country's economy and facilitate its integration with the EU.

The EUR 325 million loan is intended for the construction of a 36 kilometre section of transport corridor 10 and of access roads, as well as for the replacement of old electricity meters.
