The European Commission will issue progress reports on all EU candidates and potential candidates as well as the enlargement strategy for 2012 on Wednesday.
This will be the final progress report on Croatia, which wrapped up its EU entry talks in June and which will receive a status of an acceding country after the signing of an Accession Treaty, scheduled for 19 December.
The Commission is also expected to announce its formal opinion on Croatia's admission, which is one of the procedural steps in the preparations of the Accession Treaty.
The Commission will also announce its position on Serbia's candidacy. It is expected that the EC will recommend that a candidate status be given to Serbia. It is not very likely that Serbia would also be given a date for the start of its entry talks due to tensions in relations with Kosovo. The Commission will demand of Serbia a more constructive approach towards Kosovo.
The Commission is also expected to recommend the opening of entry talks with Montenegro which received the candidate status last December.
