The International Football Federation (FIFA) on Friday suspended its own decision whereby the Kosovo national team was allowed to play international friendly matches with other countries.
"We are withdrawing the permission given to the Kosovo Football Federation to play international friendlies and next week a meeting will be held in Zurich on that topic with officials from Kosovo, the Serbian Football Association and UEFA," FIFA President Sepp Blatter said on Friday in Budapest.
He announced a final decision to this effect for 29 June.
Kosovo is not a member of this umbrella international soccer organisation, and FIFA's recent decision to allow Kosovo to hold international friendlies was met with disapproval from UEFA president Michel Platini and Serbian FA President Tomislav Karadzic.
Platini was quoted as saying that he was unhappy that FIFA made the decision with "President Blatter not speaking to anyone first."
"It's a political decision, it is not a football decision," Platini told reporters earlier this week.
On the other hand, in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday, Blatter said the green light for Kosovo was "a positive one to help football in Kosovo develop and that he hoped it would accelerate their desire to become a full member of UEFA and FIFA in due course."
