This year's state budget will hold, Finance Minister Slavko Linic told Nova TV commercial television on Thursday evening when asked if the budget would hold or if the government would opt for another budget revision by the end of the year.
"The budget will hold simply because we were more punctual with settling our commitments in the first half of this year. The government's fundamental objective is to collect as much taxes as possible. And this means a fierce fight against grey economy," Linic said.
He underscored he was not afraid of criticism about "Linic's pressure" stressing he did not consider the fight against grey economy to be "pressure."
The minister said that in six months after its EU entry, there would be plenty possibilities for Croatia which, as a new member state of the bloc, would be interesting to foreign investors. "This period lasts six months and what we take advantage of then could mean a lot. After that, we will be an old EU member state and that means we will have to seriously come to grips with resolving the deficit," Linic said.
Asked about the deadline for bringing order into the state budget given the European Commission criteria, Linic said the deadline was yesterday.
