The Croatian HUS trade union federation leader Ozren Matijasevic has said that the direction of the policy of the incumbent government is everything but not good, and that economic indicators show that policies consisting only of cutting labour rights and increasing taxes could only result in the collapse of the economy and in declining living standards.

This can be seen in the fact that there are 323,000 jobless and that inflation has risen to 5% owing to rising housing costs and food price hikes, Matijasevic said at a news conference in the eastern Croatian town of Bizovac on Wednesday.

He also spoke about a particularly difficult situation in Slavonia with markedly higher unemployment rates and lower salaries in to comparison to the country's average.

He also warned that foreign investments in the first half of 2012 accounted for only a quarter of foreign investments in H1 2011.
