The regional Croatian Democratic Party of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB) on Thursday unveiled its initiative for the division of Croatia into five statistical regions, where Slavonia and Baranja would be a separate region, announcing that it would request a discussion on the matter in the national parliament.
"We continue our fight for a different division of Croatia and propose five statistical regions where Slavonia and Baranja will be a separate region," HDSSB MP Dinko Buric told a press conference in the parliament building.
He said that the government's decision to divide Croatia into two regions had been made "behind the scenes" and that the HDSSB would never accept "the imposed division".
"It's a disgrace that in economic terms, in terms of development and wealth, Croatia today is divided into rich and poor, almost exactly along that line," Buric said.
