The strongest opposition party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), is expected to file a formal request with the Constitutional Court later on Wednesday to assess the constitutionality of the amended Veterans' Act based on which the Homeland War Veterans Register was made public late last year, the HDZ MP and chairman of the parliamentary Committee on War Veterans, Josip Djakic, announced.
Djakic told the press in the Parliament building that the HDZ had gathered the signatures of a third of MPs to support their request for the review of the constitutionality of the publication of the Veterans Register.
"I think we will file it by close of business today," Djakic said, confident that the Constitutional Court would nullify the disputed provisions based on which the Register was published because they violated veterans' right to personal data protection.
