The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) presidency decided on Wednesday to meet together with the party's national committee on 23 January to decide on dates of intra-party elections, HDZ President Jadranka Kosor told a news conference after today's session of the HDZ leadership.
"I am positive that the elections will be held in a democratic atmosphere and I will personally see to it," Kosor said commenting on the organisation of intra-party elections at municipal, town and county levels.
"I believe that the elections will be conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect so that the HDZ will be strengthened ahead of new challenges: the forthcoming local elections and the election of Croatian deputies to the European Parliament," she added.
Asked by reporters whether she had received a letter from Ivan Domagoj Milosevic announcing his candidacy for HDZ president, Kosor answered in the affirmative, adding that Milosevic had sent the letter to her and to all HDZ Presidency members.
Responding to reporters' questions, Kosor said she had also expected the candidacy of her deputy Darko Milinovic.
She said that the HDZ presidency today had not discussed the candidacies for HDZ president.
