The Croatian People's Party (HNS), a junior party in the ruling coalition, objects to leasing Rijeka airport in its current state and urges that the Krk bridge be withdrawn from the Croatian motorways if these are to be be leased, the party's Primorje-Gorski Kotar County branch told a press conference on Wednesday.
A member of HNS' county branch, Andrej Poropat, said that the current administration at the airport which has managed to increase traffic, should be given an opportunity to exploit the airport's benefits as much as possible. Only then would leasing the airport be worthwhile when it has increased its value and worth, he said.
The HNS urges the relevant ministry and national airline carrier, Croatia Airlines, to dedicate more attention to Rijeka airport. The airline received a huge amount in subsidies from the state budget to maintain important routes but has neglected the airport itself, he said.
