The Croatian People's Party (HNS) calls on the State Prosecutor's Office (DORH) to investigate Police Director Oliver Grbic for abuse of office if it was correct that he suggested filing anonymous police reports against opposition politicians, the chairman of the HNS central committee, Ivan Vrdoljak, told the press on Monday.
He said this was a blow to the constitutional foundations of the state, calling on DORH to immediately launch an investigation and brief the National Security Council about the findings.
Vrdoljak said Grbic should be suspended for the duration of the investigation, as the police director could not order the filing of anonymous police reports to create a balance of guilt.
The chief of the HNS parliamentary group, Zlatko Koracevic, said the latest events showed that the ruling HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) party was "willing to join in a criminal enterprise to preserve something it does not deserve."
He said the parliamentary groups of the HNS and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) would file a motion for setting up a parliamentary commission of inquiry and request that it be put on the current session's agenda.
