"There is no need to listen to what someone says but who says it. The people elected him (Milanovic) to improve their living standards and to get the economy going and to prevent young people from emigrating yet he is dealing with topics that should not interest him", she said to reporters in the Croatian parliament.

She added that she did not take offence but that she finds his words to be offending to those who voted for him.

She admitted that she had thought about the possibility of suing the PM but that she had changed her mind. "He does enough harm to himself and not one court ruling could be more unfavourable for him", she said.

She explained that she would continue with the same rhetoric for her campaign in the upcoming local election.

She underscored that she was saying the same things that people had said to her in Canada where she had emigrated at the age of 15 and returned to Croatia in her forties in the 1990s.

"I was told that I could come back from where I came If I did not like Canada," Tomasic said in that context.

Croatia, she said, was a country of equal citizens, adding that "anyone who did not feel that way or did not wish to be so may go where they wished".

She considers that she has not violated the constitution but that people "who do not wish this state, do not respect it, spit on it and all its values" are violating it.

She added that she hoped the PM would conduct her PR promotion in the local elections in the same manner he did for Sunday's European Parliament election.

Milanovic reiterated in his interview with a commercial television that Tomasic's statements were evil.

The conflict between the two politicians erupted during the campaigning for Croatia's election of members of European Parliament when Milanovic accused the HSP AS leader of chauvinistic remarks after her comments on the Croatian Serb leader Vojislav Stanimirovic.
