Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) president Daniel Srb said in Osijek on Sunday the HSP and the Ivan Vekic-led Croatian Guard (HS) party had agreed to form a coalition for December's parliamentary election.

Srb told the press the HSP last week called on all patriotic parties and individuals to unite in order to protect Croatia.

"We are worried about the direction in which Croatia is going because various initiatives, such as the Igman Initiative, are again covertly showing a desire to create a new Yugoslavia, while on the other hand Croatia is heading for the European Union uncritically, not seeing to national and economic interests," said Srb.

Vekic said the HS' ideas and goals were virtually identical to those of the HSP, adding that cooperation had been offered to other right-wing and nationally aware parties, as these were crucial moments for Croatia.

Asked by the press if his collaboration with the HSP was a message to his former HDZ party, which he had helped establish, Vekic answered in the affirmative. Srb added that other HDZ founders would join the HSP in the coming days.

Vekic said those who were ousted by the HDZ would also join the HSP-HS coalition, so that only one HDZ founder would remain in the ruling party, Vladimir Seks.
