The Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) leader, Daniel Srb, who is the top candidate of the HSP-The Croatian Guard (HS) slate for Constituency No. 4, said in Osijek on Thursday that an opinion poll conducted by the HSP showed that 68 percent of residents in eastern Croatia were against Croatia's admission to the European Union.

The findings of the survey, conducted by the HSP youth branch among 2,800 residents in Slavonian towns, showed that more than 90 percent of those polled said they were poorly informed about the process of Croatia's integration into the EU.

Srb, whose party has also voiced its opposition to Croatia's plan to join the European bloc, said that some other surveys as well indicated that Slavonia had the biggest disinclination towards Croatia's EU membership.

HS leader Ivan Vekic said that "no alliance which Croatia has forged without asking its own people... has been to our benefit", recalling in this context the first Yugoslavia before WW2 and the second Yugoslav federation after WW2.
