HZZ reports 372,000 unemployed at end of January

At the end of January, 372,003 job seekers were registered with the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ), an increase of 3.8% month on month or 11.3% year on year, the HZZ reported on Monday.

According to the HZZ, more people were registered as unemployed than were struck from the register.

Most of those registered unemployed in January came straight off the job market, around 70% of newly registered unemployed or 25,529. A further 9,695 newly unemployed were new job seekers, 1,005 were school leavers and 165 came from other business activities.

A total of 22,605 people were struck from unemployment lists in January which is 26.9% more y-on-y. Of that number, 13,250 found jobs of one kind or another.

Data indicates that unemployment grew in all counties, with the highest number in Zagreb County. The highest absolute number of the unemployed was recorded in Split-Dalmatia County (50,127 people or 13.5 percent of the total number of the unemployed in Croatia).

Figures for January indicate that 87,404 people were eligible for Unemployment Allowance, which was 7.4% more y-on-y.
