The Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) requests a referendum in Istria at which local residents will give their opinion on the project for building a new coal-based power plant within the existing thermal power plant in Plomin, the IDS Council said in a statement issued on Tuesday after it held a meeting on late Monday evening.

Concerning the new Plomin plant, the physical plan for Istria envisages a possibility for a gas-based power plant, however, the government has already called bids for the coal-based bloc in the Istrian town of Plomin with no prior consent, the Council of the IDS, a junior partner in the ruling coalition, said.

The IDS therefore proposes calling a referendum so that residents in Istria can have a say in this matter.
