Slovenia will continue to support EU enlargement also after Croatia enters the bloc, the Janez Jansa cabinet decided on Thursday at a session, which is most likely one of the last sessions of this government.
According to a press release issued after today's session, due to the largest crisis in its history, the European Union is currently focusing on economic issues, its organisations and future activities, but Slovenia will continue to "clearly and actively" advocate the policy of enlargement also after Croatia joins the bloc as the 28th member.
The government declared this in response to a question by a deputy who wondered about the government's position on the statement by German Chancellor Angela Merkel about a longer break in the EU enlargement process once Croatia entered the union.
According to the Slovenian media, this could have been one of the last session of the Janez Jansa cabinet as the deadline which Parliament Speaker Gregor Virant gave Jansa to resign expires early next week.
Jansa was unavailable today for comments concerning the crisis in his coalition. According to some source, he is expected to address the issue on Friday.
