Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie said in Zagreb on Friday she was glad the world would find out through her film "In the Land of Blood and Honey" more about this region, which she said had gone through the horrors of war, because little was known about it at the time it was happening.
She was speaking on the red carpet of the CineStar Arena theatre ahead of the Croatian premiere of her directorial and screenwriting debut.
Jolie arrived in Zagreb in the afternoon aboard a private plane without her partner Brad Pitt who, she said, had stayed at home to watch the children.
Jolie said she was glad to be back in Croatia, recalling that she first visited last summer as a guest of her friend and colleague Rade Serbedzija. She said she fell in love with this region while directing the film with local actors who brought their own war experience to it.
Regarding criticism in the Serbian media that her film was one-sided, Jolie said this was not a documentary but a love story which fell apart because of the war.
Jolie arrived at the cinema under tight security and was met by many reporters, cameramen and photographers and about 500 enthusiastic fans to whom she patiently gave autographs, staying on the red carpet for about an hour.
Many public figures and politicians attended the premiere, including Croatian President Ivo Josipovic.
