Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said on Tuesday he expected soon to visit the Ovcara Memorial Centre outside Vukovar together with his Serbian counterpart Boris Tadic.
Josipovic was speaking to reporters after a monument-unveiling ceremony in Varivode, 40 kilometres north of the coastal city of Sibenik.
When asked to comment on protests from Vukovar residents over Tadic's visit, Josipovic said that not all people were against it.
"Most people understand how important such a gesture is and what President Tadic's visit means for the development of normal relations, not just between the two countries, but also for the development of good inter-ethnic relations in Croatia," Josipovic said.
Speaking of the war crimes committed in Varivode 15 years ago, Josipovic reiterated that war crimes did not fall under a statute of limitations and that he hoped that the Croatian authorities would identify the perpetrators.
"War crimes were committed on all sides, and Croats also suffered greatly. All those who committed war crimes should be punished," the President said.
