Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Monday assessed as reasonable the statement by Croatian People's Party (HNS) vice president Vesna Pusic that problems with Serbia should be resolved by an international agreement and that if that should happen, the genocide lawsuit should be put up for consideration.
"You know that when it comes to the genocide lawsuit, I worked on a good part of it. The decision on what to do with that suit... It is important to assess our chances of success, whether we can get what we expect without a long and expensive trial, and this is what we have to assess yet. In principle, it is always better to resolve things by agreement than by lawsuit. It is even possible to resolve more things by agreement, but whether this will happen or not is up to the government (which must see) what Croatia can get from one option and what it can get from the other. I believe what Mrs Pusic said is reasonable," Josipovic said.
Pusic said on Sunday Croatia had different outstanding issues with its neighbours, citing war-related issues with Serbia, such as missing persons, war crimes, and looted property. "If we manage to settle those issues through bilateral agreement, then in my opinion we should put the issue of our mutual genocide lawsuits on the table," she said.
