The return of the former prime minister and former leader of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, Ivo Sanader, is not a political issue, but solely a judicial issue, Transport Minister Bozidar Kalmeta said in Zagreb on Tuesday.
"I have nothing extraordinary to say. This is the issue for Croatian institutions, the issue for the judiciary and the issue of the rule of law and I can only say that this ... is no political issue. This is solely a judiciary issue," Kalmeta said after a session of the Economic and Social Council, when asked to comment on Sander's return to Croatia.
He added that the HDZ had absolutely no reason to fear Sanader and what he might say.
Asked if Sanader would get a fair trial in Croatia, Kalmeta said Croatia's judiciary and all its institutions observe the highest standards in their work.
