The head of the the chief opposition party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Tomislav Karamarko on Tuesday accused the government of not adhering to procedure when it did not discuss lodged budget amendments and that Parliament Speaker Josip Leko did not protect the dignity of MPs.
"We walked out of the chamber during the debate on amendments lodged by MPs because procedure was not followed and cabinet did not discuss the amendments which in fact are citizens' amendments", said Karamarko.
He remarked that the government was acting as if it were in a pub, arrogantly, superficially and indifferently toward citizens.
"We did not walk out of parliament because we were offended but because we wanted to demonstrate that things can no longer go on this way", he said to a press conference in Parliament House.
He reproached Parliament Speaker Josip Leko because he did not protect the dignity of MPs. "He cannot be a poor assistant in the comedy that government conducts in parliament", said Karamarko adding that Leko conducted parliamentary sessions in the interest of his party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and not the interest of citizens.
